5 Dangers of Kissing Babies Indiscriminately That Are Rarely Known

Kissing or touching babies is a common thing to do. However, it turns out that kissing babies should not be done carelessly because it can cause several dangerous diseases for the baby.

The Dangers of Indiscriminate Kissing Babies

Here are some diseases that can occur from kissing babies indiscriminately:

1. RSV Virus Infection

Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) is a virus that infects the lungs or respiratory tract. This virus is highly contagious and generally attacks children or babies, making it difficult for them to breathe.

In older children, the symptoms may be mild and resemble a common cold. However, in babies, this condition can become serious and potentially fatal. RSV can cause severe breathing problems and can affect the baby's heart and brain, especially for premature babies who tend to have weaker immune systems.

2. Herpes Simplex Type 1

Also known as cold sores or oral herpes, this disease is perhaps the most dangerous that occurs in babies, as a result of being kissed by others.

This disease occurs because the herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV 1) can be transmitted through a kiss, even just a kiss on the hand. Initially, blisters will form around the lips and mouth, then spread to other parts of the face such as the nose, cheeks, and chin.

Moreover, if not treated immediately, herpes in babies can also cause brain inflammation. Remember, if this virus enters the body, it will last a lifetime until the baby grows up. Therefore, keep babies from being kissed by indiscriminate people or those diagnosed with herpes type 1.

3. Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease (HFMD)

This disease usually occurs in children under the age of 10. It can be transmitted through physical contact such as hugging or kissing the baby.

Fever, mouth ulcers, blisters, and skin rashes around the mouth, hands, and feet are signs that a child has contracted this disease. Although not fatal, HFMD can cause problems for babies with weaker immune systems.

4. Allergies

Kissing a baby can trigger allergies. Adults usually use skincare or cosmetic products that contain chemicals. If the baby is exposed to these chemicals, it can cause skin irritation or allergic reactions.

Moreover, people who have just consumed foods such as dairy products, nuts, or other common allergen foods, if they immediately kiss the baby, the baby will be exposed to these allergens and risk developing an allergic reaction.

5. Weakened Immune System

Babies are most vulnerable to diseases during the first few months when their gut bacteria are still developing. Therefore, any child or adult who wants to come into contact with a baby should ensure their hands are completely clean and free of signs of contagious diseases.

Often, adults or children are unaware of the diseases they carry, then transmit the disease to the baby by kissing the baby.

If this happens, the baby must fight germs and viruses with their still weak immune system, and as a result, the baby becomes easily sick.

Those are some diseases that can occur as a result of indiscriminately kissing babies. From now on, if you want to touch or kiss a baby, make sure you are healthy and your hands are thoroughly clean. Also, don't forget to ask for the baby's parents' permission before touching them.
